WAEC - POSSIBLE PRACTICAL ANSWERS
WAEC - AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE PRACTICAL FOR 2022
WAEC - PRACTICAL BIOLOGY QUESTIONS
1) Identify specimen A-E without any reason
2) State (3) physical differences between specimen A and B
3) State the type of germination represented in specimen B and C
4) State reasons for your answer in number 3
5) Highlight (5) conditions needed for proper germination of specimen B
6) Briefly explain the main reason for soaking specimen C inside water overnight
7) Itemize (3) ways for reducing/removing dormancy of seeds
8) Compare the germination rate of specimen A, B and C provided they are grown under the same germination condition.
9) Briefly explain reasons for your answer in number 8
10) State a simple way of determining the viability of seeds
PRACTICAL BIOLOGY POSSIBLE ANSWERS
1)
Specimen A-Weevil damaged bean seed
Specimen B-Viable bean seed
Specimen C-Dried maize grain soaked in water overnight
Specimen D- Soldier termite (dead)
Specimen E-Honey bee (dead)
2)
3) Germination in specimen B------Epigeal germination
Germination in specimen C------ Hypogeal germination
4)
Specimen B -exhibit epigeal because the cotyledon is brought above the soil surface.
Specimen C -exhibit hypogeal because the cotyledon is below the soil surface.
5)
1) Warmth (adequate temperature)
2) Moisture (water)
3) Viability of seeds
4) Air
5) Light
6)
This is done to determine the viability of the maize seeds. Soaking of maize overnight is done to remove or break dormancy in the maize seeds.
7)
1) Scarification
2) Treatment with acid
3) Treatment with hormone
4) Chemical treatment
5) Application of heat
8)
Specimen A will not germinate properly even if other external factors needed for germination are met.
Specimen B will germinate properly provided that all other conditions are kept constant
Specimen C will germinate properly if other conditions like moisture, light, enzymes are met.
9)
Specimen A- The bean seed already damaged by beans weevil leading to destruction of the cotyledon and testa
Specimen B-The internal factor called viability of seeds is met. The cotyledon and testa remain intact to grow into a full plant.
Specimen C- Dormancy of maize seed broken by soaking overnight hence bringing about rapid germination.
10)
Soak seeds inside a beaker containing water for few hours. The viable seeds will move downward and settle at the bottom of the beaker while seeds that are not viable will float on the surface.
